Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 1: Somebody Threw A Three-Hitter In This Game But It Was Not Jo-Jo

By some measures -- perhaps, indeed, by all of them -- Clay Buchholz outdueled Jo-Jo Reyes last night, allowing only three hits through seven strong innings of work. Jo-Jo made it into the seventh and allowed a reasonable four runs, which is about all that can be asked of him, but the Red Sox are pretty awesome, so it was not enough. There are other things that happened in last night's game, other things that can be noted or said, but none that gladden me.

This might be the last weekend where I keep track of exactly how far back the Blue Jays are in the division (5 1/2 games) and the Wild Card (3 1/2). Eventually it just hurts you to know. Unless the Blue Jays win the next two, I think that point is about to be reached. Then it's the long struggle to stay at or near .500 that will have to sustain me. That and Jose Bautista being the best player in baseball. It'll be OK.
