We watch baseball. And have feelings. Baseball feelings. Here, my friends, are some of them.

Jose Cruz must have married well, because Jose Cruz Jr. is totally identifiable as the son of Jose Cruz but way, way prettier.
ReplyDeletealso, I totally love baseball cards. I am not a baseball card speculator or anything but I am a baseball card aesthete and when I remember to I go to the sports card show they hold on the last Saturday of every month at the bingo hall at the forum and I invariably come away with at least one breathtaking objet d'art like a Johnny Bench card where he's doing something cool or like a really old Dick Groat and I basically get them with pocket change (which is more substantial in Canada than some other places but still). I really wanted a Bob Uecker one time but it was somewhere around ten dollars and I have a hard time going above like three.
ReplyDeleteI still have a box with like 2000 from my youth. We used to have parties where we used magazines and altered them in hilarious fashion. This was like 15 yrs ago pre-photoshop era. I know there's a rookie Cal Ripken one in there somewhere, but I don't care about shit like that. I just like the cool ones. I actually was laying in bed going to sleep last night thinking about great years of wacky players in wacky uniforms for teams to do this with. I am not entirely proud of that but it is true.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds way more fun than photoshop. Also yeah I have or have had a bunch of kind of conventionally collectible cards from a long time ago when I thought that would be cool (and a Gretzky rookie IS actually pretty cool, there's no other way to look at the issue) but those days are past me and now I want a picture of Bobby Bonilla or somebody looking incredibly bored during batting practice or like Chris Sabo pulling down a mascot's pants (still looking on that last one but it or something like it HAS to exist).
ReplyDeleteyeah, now I guess my favorite one would be the U.L. Washington toothpick one. I also had a rookie Steve Howe which I always kept for lulz, back before "lulz" existed
