2022 Game Seventy-Six: Blue Jays 4, Rays 1

there you go! there you go!

It happened! It was bound to happen, or so I claimed, and then it happened! Yusei Kikuchi pitched great! Against a good team! A team that has actually been scuffling at the plate a little but let us set that to one side as we praise and encourage Yusei Kikuchi's mere one run allowed on four hits and just one walk (!!!) with eight strikeouts in six innings, a quality start by any measure (especially by the "quality starts"  measure, but not exclusively by it). Thornton, Phelps, and Cimber were scoreless from there (here lies Beavis; he never scored), making the pair of two-run homers from Téo and Espinal more than "the necessary." It was lovely to read Yusei Kikuchi's post-game comments, in which he talked about how much he appreciated all of his teammates' support during this very difficult stretch for him personally, just little things that meant a lot to him like the guys inviting him along for dinner, or even just  bringing him drinks on the flights, and making him feel like a real part of the good times the team was having even though he himself was really struggling. It was all pretty lovely! Also lovely: George Springer mic'd up, in three parts. Not to be missed!
