2022 Game Seventy-Seven: Blue Jays 9, Rays 2

there's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in,
as the poet said one time

After as nice a pre-game ceremony as the recently retired Russel Martin could have possibly hoped for (man, a sold-out SkyDome crowd on Canada is extremely the correct audience for pre-recorded comments from José Bautista, isn't it?), it would be wrong to say that José Berríos had his best stuff, as he certainly got into some sticky situations, but he was in a sense at his most La Makina, in that he just figured it out and worked his way through it with his trademark classy efficiency (colon, The José Berríos Story [new line, as told to, let's say, Keegon Matheson {why not}]). A half-dozen doubles is one of the better ways to put up the better part of nine runs on the board, and this game felt fully jubilant from the five-run third inning on; we didn't even need Gurriel's home run in the seventh for that (though it too ruled).

It truly was a Happy Canada Da[aaaaaa]y.
