2021 Game One-Thirty-Two: Blue Jays 5, Orioles 4

Your non-Shohei Ohtani AL leaders in fWAR

The Blue Jays come from behind twice to win it late? With Bo Bichette flying around the bases? And another home run from Marcus Semien? And Steven Matz pitching out of a bad spot that would have been over two batters (and two runs!) earlier had somebody yelled "two! two!" to Corey Dickerson? Everything except for that last part was great, and even that last part was pretty interesting. I am enormously pleased for the truly struggling Randal Grichuk that the winning run came on his sacrifice fly in the eighth (it didn't get all that deep, but Bo is something of "a burner" out there), because man: things have gotten pretty lowly for him these days, like people are posting his MLB The Show stats on him (and not in the good way). Did anybody else hear the long interview he did with the Jomboy guys last year? He was low-key delightful throughout! I want good things for him.

So where do we stand, headed into the big weekend series against the Athletics? Brad Hand-less, for one thing, as he was claimed off waivers by the New York Mets (they need hand; they have no hand, Jerry). But more saliently: five games behind Boston with thirty games to play. Time is truly wasting, the Isley brothers sang about graver matters; there is no guarantee, they later added. All of this holds true. Boston continues to not be all that great right now, but they play Cleveland this weekend, which is an easier draw than Oakland for sure. A sweep of the A's would pull the Blue Jays even with them (Oakland, not Boston), which would be pretty exciting! Manoah on the mound tonight!
