A couple of big swings—one off the bat of the venerable Sal Perez for three runs, the other coming from that of the Pasquatch himself, Italian WBC legend Vinnie Pasquantino, for two more—had Spencer Arrighetti and his pals (your Toronto Blue Jays) down early, and down they stayed, a condition aggravated somewhat by the Guardians' third walk-off win in four games (all coming against Detroit [figure it out, Tigers; jeeze louise]). And so the Blue Jays fall a game off the pace. However! We are off to Sacramento to play the long-suffering A's, with Cease, Soriano, and Scherzer lined up for the series, whereas the Guardians will be dealing with the still-slightly-in-it Baltimore Orioles to start the week. The good news and the bad about that Guards/O's series is the same news, and it is that in each of those three games, one team we would like to lose will for sure lose, but but one team that we would prefer to see lose will necessarily win (did you know they still do tie games in the ol' 日本野球機構 Nippon Yakyū Kikō? kind of neat, right?). So long as we're winning, though, we're in good shape! And actually, at this, our very moment of composition, I see now that the Guards fell to the Orioles 6-4 in Baltimore earlier in the day, and we've got Dylan Cease going for us tonight, so you've got to like those chances, right?
