Rays 4, Blue Jays 3: I See Your Problem, Just Right At The End There

what's the worst that could happen

Tyler Rogers' excellent excellence is predicated on soft contact and lots of it (haha yes please), but last night's eighth inning was a true horror show of exactly that, as our one-run lead (built off of, among other things, another Kazuma Okamoto home run) got just about as thoroughly BABPIP'd as you're ever going to see in the kind of slow-motion-yet-seemingly-inevitable disaster baseball specializes in. Little dribbler here! Another one there! Ope! Nope! Not a single play to be made on any of these! The troubled eighth made a real hash of the fine innings that had preceded it (pitchingly, I mean), first from Kevin Gausman (never a surprise) and then Jeff Hoffman (we are all rooting for you, Jeff Hoffman [except for jerks but never mind them]). But in truth, I expect nothing but pain from the Trop, so this pretty much checks out. Looking at the schedule, I'm pleased to see the Blue Jays will be out of there after an early game today, and then on to the far less cursed (unless you're the Angels) Angel Stadium in Anaheim for the weekend, before we head back home to face (I am sighing on a Charlie Brown level right now) . . . the Rays for three. Wait, they are going Toronto to Tampa to Los Angeles to Toronto? That's pretty far flung! Although I would obviously thrive in every other aspect of life as a major leaguer, I really do think I would find the travel disagreeable. On the whole, I think things have largely worked out for the best. It's true, too, that one shouldn't professionalize all of one's interests. There are a lot of factors here. (Edited to add: I am in fact way off, as the Blue Jays were in Minnesota before this [oh that's right!], and do not fly from Tampa on to LA, but rather back to home to Toronto, so never mind just about anything I have to say ever, is the point I am working towards here.)
