Rangers 7, Blue Jays 4: Sheesh McGeesh!

Kirk got one, at least

Dylan Cease struggled with his control, and walked really any number of guys (actually I have just now checked, and the particular number was five), but also struck out ten, and it seemed like he was going to get through five innings (fewer than he'd like, but a creditable amount) with just the one run. Not so, however! With two outs in the fifth, the Rangers scored five more runs—five more!—off of first Cease, and then the Fluharty (in this case Mason) who relieved him (an uncommon Nathan Lukes misplay in right cost us two runs very directly in that fifth inning, I'm afraid). Not a great situation, but a familiar one, in that the Blue Jays were down by a whole bunch before the bats finally kicked in: a two-run homer from the recently recalled Yohendrick Pinango (Davis Schneider, who failed to get on base all week, was understandably but regrettably sent down) got the people going, even if it only brought the score to 6-2; Alejandro Kirk's home run in the next inning (the five-hundredth base hit of his career!) was met with even more delight, in part because it drew us closer still, but also just on account of how much everybody likes Alejandro Kirk. But things did not especially improve from there, and despite a handful of further baserunners, there was really nothing much doing. Vladdy had a miserable oh-for-five day, with just the one strikeout, but several hard-hit balls directly at people (Rangers fielders, regrettably). That makes five straight losses, all at home. It really was quite a mess, but on what appeared to be a perfect summer afternoon at the SkyDome, so you take the bad with the good, I guess.
