| pretty nice! |
Two runs is, admittedly, not a lot of runs. And yet it is the most that Cristopher Sánchez—having recently concluded a stretch of fifty-and-two-thirds scoreless innings (the fifth-longest such stretch in MLB history, and the longest by a lefty)—has allowed in a start since April. I remind you that we are well into June! He's been almost impossibly good, and, in keeping with that, he struck out ten in his seven innings last night, allowing just four hits and a lone walk. It's tough to be too upset about it. And on the other side of things, Patrick Corbin finally had a less-than-impressive start (five runs in three innings), which, if we are being honest with each other (and with ourselves), is the only kind of start any of us expected from when we embarked upon this strange (and strangely fruitful) path. Following Corbin, we had four fine innings from the recently-claimed (from the Twins) Simeon Woods-Richardson, who had been dealt from the Blue Jays to the Twins as part of the José Berrios deal back in 2021, having joined the Blue Jays organization as part of the Marcus Stroman trade two years before that. He looked really good! And is somehow only twenty-five years old. Maybe he'll stick around? Or maybe he'll be shuffled about as Cease and Scherzer come off the IL? Who knows! But it was neat that he made his Blue Jays début after all these years, and pitched well.
Dylan Cease against Zach Wheeler tonight! Sounds great! Let's see about it!
