The four-run seventh was fun! It did, however, come after Vladdy (one-for-two with a single) had been pulled from the game with further tightness in his back, and after it had been revealed that Dylan Cease had flown back to Toronto for an MRI that would, in the fullness of time, reveal no concern greater than generalized inflammation, though that is concern enough to end Cease's season, unless, say, the Blue Jays were still in some sense in business (the business of getting into the postseason, specifically) next weekend as we wrap the season against the Cincinnati Reds (such a classic team; let us welcome them as such). All of that feels ever more doubtful with each passing day, of course, as the Blue Jays remain three games behind the White Sox with just six, now, left to play; and, what's worse, the White Sox hold the head-to-head tiebreaker, meaning that, functionally, we'll need to play four games better than they do over, again, just six games. Tough to do! FanGraphs playoff odds down to 3.6%! Despite how we were in the WC3 spot just a few weeks ago! Mutability is indeed our tragedy, but it is of course also our hope (the worst of times, like the best, are always passing away).
