How can there only be sixteen games to go? The baseball seasons, like the seasons themselves, seem to leave us faster every year. If they are going to keep on receding at this present pace (or worse!), how pleasing then, that sometimes Josh Smith and Kazuma Okamoto will hit back to back home runs; that the Blue Jays will tack on two more in a sixth-inning rally; that José Soriano, who came to us in our best trade for a starting pitcher since the José Berrios deal, will go seven strong innings on a night when the bullpen really needed the rest (ahead of Wednesday afternoon's bullpen game); and that Rule-5 legend Spencer Miles can take it the rest of the way. Just a genuine pleasures, this one. And so here we sit: back at .500, still a game back, with the Guards winning earlier in the evening, but pretty hopeful. Wouldn't a win this afternoon to wrap-up the road trip be just the ticket?
